Polygon PoS - TPS

Image
Currently Polygon web site boasts up to 65 000 TPS. Popular TPS you also see mentioned when talking about Polygon PoS chain is 7200 TPS. There has been a blog post posted by Polygon in address https://blog.matic.network/7200-tps-achieved-on-matic-networks-counter-stake-testnet/, but that blog post doesn’t seem to exist anymore even in the new location of the polygon blog archive here . Based on another blog post of their own, the 7200 TPS seems to be a theoretical max limit for the PoS chain instead. The blog post refers to 1000 TPS being closer to actual achievable TPS. In practice however, as a Polygon project fan myself, I have been monitoring their PoS chain block explorer a lot, and I have never seen the TPS count in practice going over around 110 TPS even on times when the transaction queue has been getting very long on peak times. From their average gas price chart you can see some days with spiking gas prices. During those days the networks had trouble handling all the trans...

Avalanche C-chain - TPS

When talking about Avalanche TPS you often hear 4500 TPS mentioned, but that figure refers to non-EVM X-Chain. We are interested on the EVM-compatible C-chain. There seems not to be very good reliable data about max TPS on Avalanche C-chain, but 1000 TPS is often being mentioned. However, the C-chain has been quite a few times congested during past months and on these occasions the gas prices has been really sky rocketing. I have not personally been witnessing these congestions, and thus is bit difficult to know what kind of TPS figures and what types of transactions has been causing these. Looking at the transaction data from their block explorer stats we can calculate their average transaction gas usage which was 192103 on 2022/04/12. C-chain gas limit per 2 second block is 8.000.000. This means that if they are handling their normal average transactions, 4.000.000 gas per second limit can fit only maximum of 20,82 transactions. To be fair average transactions on the C-chain with ga...

Telos EVM - TPS

Telos EVM differentiates itself from competition by not being a fork of the original Go Ethereum, like other EVMs, but is implemented from scratch and runs on top of EOSIO protocol. Telos web site boasts up to 10 000 TPS for their EVM. This high TPS figure is probably based on stress testing done on EOS Jungle testnet for EOSIO protocol. This TPS could be in theory possible if their compatibility server acting between the user and the EOSIO protocol would be also capable of handling 10 000 TPS. I was able to chat briefly about this TPS with Telos Core Development team members Douglas Horn and Jesse Schulman. Jesse told they did some quick initial performance testing in September 2021 before launching their Telos EVM. The RPC servers back then had limited capacity and the number of the servers pushing the transactions to the Telos EVM was also lacking. The aim of the test was not to set TPS records and was cut short in the end. Despite these limitations they were able to sustain stead...

Blockchain EVM comparison

Image
I wanted to create a honest comparison with real numbers instead of showing you theoretical marketing numbers. If you disagree with any of it, please leave a comment, back it up with data or proof and I will correct my content. Keeping this post super short as you people are SO lazy reading anything 🤣  If you like what I do, consider following me on twitter: @aCryptoObserver Summary This picture is a summary of my research and I keep it updated to contain latest information. TPS - Transactions per second TPS figures in the picture means maximum sustainable real-world usage TPS. Check out background and "proof" for the TPS on these separate articles: Avalanche - C-chain: 27 TPS Polygon PoS: 100 TPS Fantom: 20 TPS Telos EVM: 1000 - 6000 TPS Conclusions It seems like most TPS figures mentioned in crypto space are theoretical maximums or at least results of a tests run with the lightest transactions possible to achieve high TPS counts, very little connected to real world usage s...

Fantom - TPS

Image
In many sources you read about Fantom being capable of executing 10 000 TPS. Similar sources also mention the goal of reaching 300 000 TPS, which is very respectable number. It seems like the number 10 000 TPS has originated from this twitter post , but when you follow the related links deeper, you notice that the high TPS figure is actually about the capabilities of Fantom’s Lachesis consensus engine only, excluding the actual running of the transactions. The post is visible here , which from below screen capture is taken from.   When we look more into the Fantom TPS topic, it is helpful to look into the Fantom blockchain explorer data here . At the time of writing the current TPS on the from page is around 14 TPS. Of course, that doesn’t mean it is the maximum TPS, but it is interesting to notice that even with this volume people are paying higher fees to get their transactions being picked for execution faster. Normally, when there is no congestion on the transaction execution, ...
